Shepherds Pie
I was watching BBC food last night and the chef in the program made a Shepherds Pie and I wonder how it tastes. I got up early in the morning and checked the fridge and the cupboards if the ingredients are available; fortunately I have ground pork, potatoes and some of the basics. So I made up this improvised Shepherds Pie, I used ground pork instead of ground beef and cheddar instead of parmesan cheese. The outcome is great it’s like a pie made in heaven.
Ingredients:
half kg. ground pork
2 tablespoon butter
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
2 eggs, separate yolk & whites
6 tablespoons butter
4 potatoes, peeled, boiled, and mashed
2 pcs.minced onion
1 tablespoon ketchup
1 salt of celery cut into strips
stock pork
half cup cream
2 cloves pressed garlic
cheddar cheese
-Brown the pork and sauté the onions and celery in 2 tablespoons of butter until it caramelize. Mix the pork with onions, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Add a quarter cup of pork stock and cover it over a low heat for at least 15 minutes; add more stock as necessary to keep it moist.
-Meanwhile lightly beat the egg yolks, and then in another bowl, beat egg whites until it is stiff. Mix the yolks, cream, 6 tablespoons butter and pressed garlic into hot mashed potatoes. Fold in the egg whites. Put the meat mixture into an 8-inch pie pan then top it with the potato mixture. Sprinkle it with cheese and bake it in the oven at 180° for 25-30 mins. until potato topping puffed-up and is golden brown.

Have heard, read all about this English stuff, but till now I haven’t mustered enuf guts to whip it up. Should give it a try, looks great and surely will be a gastronomic delight. Think I will enjoy preparing it, the ingredients are not that hard to find in the grocery shelves. THANKS A HEAP!
