Vegetables with Tofu
Another original recipe of mine. It’s a chinese-inspired with a Filipino touch. As I’ve mentioned earlier in the past, I’m trying to stay away from meat and seafoods and thats the reason behind this vegetarian dish. Try it!!
Ingredients:
vegetable oil
a fair slice of tofu
1 small carrot julienne (cut into small sticks)
1 unpeeled cucumber -cut into tidbits
1 small onion -cut in half and sliced
1 clove of garlic -slice diagonally
half tsp. of sesame seed oil
1 tbsp. of soy sauce (kikkoman)
1 tbsp. vegetarian oyster sauce (optional)
a pinch of sugar
a pinch of chili flakes
tsp. of corn flour
half cup of water
salt
pepper
-fry the tofu in a hot oil until it is lightly golden brown, remove from the pan and drain well on a kitchen paper.
-in a bowl, mix and prepare water, corn flour, sesame seed oil, soy sauce (and oyster sauce). (add a half tbsp. of soy sauce if you wish to remove the oyster sauce)
-in a hot oil stir-fry the garlic, onion, cucumber and carrots while adding sugar and chili flakes. Stir-fry it for about 2 minutes until the edges are caramelized and slightly browned. Don’t over cooked the veggies.
-Pour in the liquid mixture (water, cornflour, sesame seed oil )until it is thick.
-Add freshly ground pepper and salt
-Serve immediately with the fried tofu on top
-Garnish it with young onion (optional)
